Hi to all,
My mother was a Carnes from Coweta County Georgia. I have some info
regarding this line for anyone who would like know.
Regarding the DNA...I recently submitted a sample and was within 60 days or
so linked up to another Robi(n)son with a DNA match. What is the point?
Obviously, we don't have any DNA evidence from those of long ago, but it is
quite possible that by finding a DNA match in today's environment, you can
find one of your distant relatives that has a much more extensive genealogy
search completed and has access to information that you can link into. In
this way, the two of you have a much broader range of information.
Hopefully, with enough people involved, we can solve many of the "brick
walls" that exist in all of our research.
Hope this is of value
Steve Robinson

I have been receiving these emails regarding Carnes DNA, etc. My g.
grandmother was Louisa F. Carnes, daughter of Robert and Harriet Carnes.
Anyone out there in this line? I am not familiar with the DNA part of it or
why. Can someone explain this to me. Thanks.

It is my understanding that
FTDNA.com has a sale (certificates got
reductions of $30, and $20 and possibly $10) for 3 levels of DNA kits for
groups. We joined the Carney group to get the group rate since that was
recommended to us by FTDNA. I was told by another person that they did not
have to have an established group - just plan to set one up.
At any rate, the sale is good until the end of the year. Just for new
people, not upgrading from a previous submission. Information can be found
at the
FTDNA.com site.
If we can get enough to have a Carnes DNA group, we will switch to that
group.
I think I have mostly the same information on Richard that you have on
your
site. I got most of it from the Hart Co., GA book. The copy of the
application papers to the Indian Affairs (or whatever it was called) was
sent to me by another researcher.
My ancestor, son of Wells, was named William Redwine Carnes. I noted that
William Redwine was a noted Methodist Preacher of the area.

I"ll talk to some of my male Carnes cousins, and see if I can get any of
them interested.
I'd loved to be able to get proof of relationship of my Richard Carnes b.
1774 NJ and your ancestor, Wells Carnes.
Please keep me posted, if you will, as to progress about getting a Carnes
DNA group going.
I've got a Richard Carnes GEDCOM; I use Legacy Software. You can view it

I'm trying to get a Carnes DNA group going.
My cousin, a nephew of my grandmother, Annie Carnes, submitted his DNA.
His
name is Harvey L. Carnes. He is listed under my e-mail address
jstokes(a)houston.rr.com
I can send you his statistics. I do believe we are related - You and I. My
oldest ancestor was Wells Carnes, believed to be a brother to your
Richard.
Richard named a son Wells. I think I have found another Carnes descended
from your Richard. He submitted DNA to the National Geographic - I think.
This would be the minimum amount. So his submission could be raised to
more
than that if he should decide to let FTDNA switch his original DNA to
their
database. I will see if I can get him to do it.
I joined my cousin to the Carney group - which I doubt actually has a
connection. It said it had 4 or 9 Carnes connections. I can't find any of
them or if they do connect, they are probably at the 12 level which isn't
quite far enough although they say that if it is the same name and they
match at 50% there is a good chance that they might match further on. I
think it is going to take at least 25 to get a genealogy match. We did 37
markers
By joining a group, it reduced the money a good bit. They are showing all
matches - not just in groups.
It would be great if you could get a cousin to do this. We are only
guessing
that Richard and Wells are brothers, but we DO think they are.
The director of the Carney bunch sent me the name of a lady who is
interested and might be able to get someone to participate.
I actually have information on 3 or 4 more batches of Carnes besides my
own.
Most of my information on Richard and family came from the Book on Hart
Co.,
GA. I do have it on my database and if you don't have it all entered, I
would be willing to send you a gedcom of Richard's descendants that I
have.
Or a list.
Betty

Betty,
Is there a Carnes DNA project on-going now, and are the results being
published on a web site somewhere?
I am a descendant of Richard Carnes, b. 1774 NJ, d. aft 1850 Franklin/Hart
Co., GA. My mother was a Carnes from Hart County, GA. I'd like to see if I
can persuade some of my male Carnes cousins to participate.

My male Carnes cousin has submitted his DNA for testing. The test has been
completed for 37 markers. We are hoping that some other male Carnes will
submit their DNA to see if there is a match. We have 5 generations proven
before the submitter who was born in 1925
Information on how to submit may be obtained at
FTdna.com.
My cousin joined a Carney group to get a reduced rate. If we get enough
Carnes surnames, we can switch at no extra cost to just or Carnes lineage,
or remain with the Carney group.
Our Carnes line goes back from Texas to Mississippi to Alabama to Georgia.
It is thought that they were in Maryland and New Jersey prior to Georgia,
but we have no positive proof of that.
