The ad reads:
"This is a Fantastic c.1877 Leather Bound Roman Catholic Family Bible. It is The
Complete Domestic Bible, Old and New Testaments together with the Apocrypha, Concordance,
and Psalms of David in Metre. It is translated out of the original tongues and with all
former translations diligently compared and revised. To which is added a profusely
illustrated pronouncing dictionary of the Bible, a history of the books of the Bible, a
history of all Religious sects, biographies of eminent Bible characters, a history of the
coins of the Bible, and many other valuable aids and elegant embellishments. It is
beautifully illustrated and publisher by Schuyler Smith & Co., London, Ontario. It is
approximately 10x12 inches and 4 inches thick. The Personal Family Page says “This
Certifies that George Hall Ferry and Elizabeth Carnegie were solemnly united by me in the
Holy bonds of Matrimony at Chatham, Kent on the 12th day of August in the year of our Lord
One Thousand Eight Hundred a!
nd 77 conformably to the Ordinance of God and the Law of the Dominion.” It is signed by
Rev. Isaac Hadfield. There is a small newspaper clipping inside the bible announcing the
union of this couple. There are 2 Family Record pages, front and back that are blank, they
were never filled out. In the back of the Bible there are 2 pages, front and back for
Family Portraits. This Bible must have been a wedding present to the couple. It is in good
condition, not missing any pages. The leather is worn on some corners of the cover. The
Leather cover is three dimensional with stamped decorations and very ornate. The words
“Holy Bible” are embossed in gold. It has wonderful illustrations, some in color."
