Linda has got it right. There were so many contemporaries who had the same
names that it is very confusing. Unfortunately, Carnahans are so hard to
track that people have grasped straws and the myths have spread.
I am still at a brick wall tracing John Carnahan, b @ 1750. I have found a
lot of Johns, but none of the provably the one I am seeking.

Hi Nancy - The problem with the Carnahan Blockhouse story is that there is
so much
conflicting information. Was their father Adam or John - Was David
the son of John who was killed at the blockhouse - or his brother? Almost
every biography says it a little differently. The fact is - we don't know.
I would hasten to say that there are a lot of theories out there (there have
been theories for 100 years or more.) - I have my own, too- but I don't
think anyone can say that they know. I do know that Capt. James of the
Blockhouse did not drown in the river . . . that was another James.
Frontier Forts is a good biography - but there are a LOT of stories out
there about the Blockhouse. If you go to the Cumberland or Westmoreland
Historical Societies there are more and more and more . . . .
I hope we do solve it one day - because I sincerely believe that I descend
from
Capt. James - and I really would like to know who his parents are.
My best - Linda
