Phil - I believe the "Bowers" you are referring to was probably Mary Elizabeth
Bowers, married to my G Grandfather, James Henry Carnahan. They were living in Kansas in
the 1930's, but unless there was a 'secret' child named Dan, our family
records show their 8 children were as follows:
1) Mary "Mollie" Elizabeth Carnahan (06/16/1880- 1965)
2) Laura "Sissie" Carnahan 11/15/1882-09/03/1951
3) John Henry Carnahan 05/28/1884-1938
4) Janie S. Carnahan 03/01/1886-05/21/1978
5) Nola Belle Carnahan 08/03/1892-06/29/1903
6) William Lee "Lee" Carnahan 09/18/1895-11/10/1966 (My Grandfather)
7) Horace F. Carnahan 01/27/1897-May, 1963)
8) Jen Otis "Otis" Carnahan 12/23/1899 - 04/03/1920
With that said, my father (Howard Carnahan) does recall a relative named 'Dan'
from Pennsylvania who lived with him at my grandparents (William 'Lee' and Olive
HOUGHTON Carnahan) farm in Kansas for a couple fo years circa 1930. (My father would have
been about 10 or 12 years old at the time).
THE FOLLOWING IS SPECULATION ONLY: We have heard that there was a Dan Carnahan from PA,
who was said to be the son of a "Lee" Carnahan and who had a brother named
'Howard or Harold'. We think he was the son of James Henry's brother, John
'Lee' and Kate M. (Catherine MCDONALD?) Carnahan of Butler County (later Lawrence
Co.) Pennsylvania. In that case, Dan's brothers would have been James I. and William
H.H. Carnahan. We wonder if one of those H.'s may have stood for 'Howard' or
'Harold'. Just food for thought.
