Hi Gang,
This note is for the purpose of urging you to check on all of our Carnahan
cousins who lived in the path of Hurricane Katrina.
Hi Back
Checking in. I got out of New Orleans 13 hrs before the storm hit with
help of a neighbor. We spent 4 hrs in bumper to bumper traffic to get
35 miles. We finally stopped at 4am just West of Memphis. Then we
continued on to West Plains MO the next morning. I spent a few days
there and then rented a car [no money in the bank to pay for it] and
went to my nieces in OK. She can't put me up long term and Buffalo
only has a Dept of Human Services office so moved down to Woodward.
I recieved $144 in disaster relief food stamps and the Red Cross has
me in a motel for another week. I'm registered with FEMA and have been
approved for the $2000 in relief but I have no idea when I'll get it.
"I'm at the end of the line" so to speak.
I was in a ground floor apt and satelite images show at least 4 ft of
water. I have no idea how deep it got. I got out with a guitar, a
laptop and a weeks worth of clothes.
I know I will only go back to see what I might be able to salvage.
Any of my Carnahan Cousins who would like to render some assistance
please contact me off list and please put Katrina in the subject line.
Many Thanks,
Cal Boyd
