Allegheny County Court - Carnahan An Able Lawyer
Thomas Dorrington Carnahan is recognized as one of the ablest municipal lawyers in the
State. He was born August 22, 1850, in East Birmingham, now Pittsburg, a son of Robert
Brown Carnahan, who was one of the leading attorneys of Allegheny County until his death.
Judge Carnahan was graduated from the Western University of Pennsylvania with the class of
1872 and received the A.M degree from the same institution in 1875. He was admitted to
the bar December 16, 1876, whil working as a newspaper reporter. He continued to work in
the newspaper business until 1881, reading law at the same time with his father, with whom
he was later associated in practice.
Judge Carnahan was Assistant City Solicitor of Pittsburg from 1888 to 1902, City Solicitor
from January, 1902, until March 1903, and he now is First Assistant Solicotor of the city.
His mastery of municipal law is thorough and he is also recognized as a leader in general
practice. He has been a member of the board of trustees of the Western University of
Pennsylvania since 1891.
