Hi Donna,
About McAfee,
That is what my wife and I use and we find it to work pretty well. You are
right about the companies that do virus scan software, they are by
definition always behind on the latest rash of pranksters, but they do the
best they can ... and I shudder to think what my system would be like
without them.
We use the McAfee Clinic option, which allows you to download a screening
program which scans all incoming items for bugs or suspicious trash. You
can select a regular time of the week when they can send you the latest
update to the virus scan files. As I recall, I think that you can go to
their website and download the latest DAT files. It costs about $30 per
year per machine, but I decided that it would be worth a try. So far, I am
satisfied. Until last year, I has Dr. Solomon on my machine, by Dr.
Solomon was bought out by the parent company that owns McAfee ... so, we
went McAfee this year.
The way that our arrangement works is that we joined McAfee Clinic for the
annual fee, and then we were able to select a password. We gave a credit
card number (by phone) and they will automatically charge the annual fee to
that card for the next term. I do not recommend giving out a credit card
number over the internet, no matter who says it is OK.
Regards,
Norman

I had Norton when I bought my computer, and I've used up the 8
that gave
me. Then I bought a Macfee at Costco and have tried to do the updates
from their webpage, but can't get in
without a password. Have e-mailed them and no one has contacted me. Do I
need to purchase one and install on my hard drive and if so can I get
updates from the net? Also, it
doesn't sound like they can keep up with all the virus', so it sounds like
you are always behind the gun to get somekind of virus?
