Hi Emma,
I've got most of it now. Just a couple questions left.
James and Mary's children: I have only 4 listed:
Mary Lou
Sanford
Francis O
Benjamin
Who am I missing?
Also, I had James Newtons wife spelled...Leodicia Logan Johnston...Is this
correct? or was she married to a Logan previously? Tks
I'd imagine it is quite a reunion!
God Bless!
Darrell
Hi Darrell,
James Newton Carnahan and Mary Ann Jinkins Ivester Solomon had 5 children:
Arthur - b. 15 May 1891 Joplin, Jack Co., Texas - We do not know his exact
death date but he apparently lived only a few days. Although there is not
stone marking his grave he is probably buried in the Fairview Cemetery,
Joplin, Jack Co., Texas. That is where Leo Dicia and others are buried.
As for the spelling of her name. I have seen folks use both those spellings.
AND... the spelling has varied in different sources.
For example:
Dicy - 1850 census - Wayne Co., Missouri
Leodicy - 1856 - their marriage record from Madison Co., Missouri
Ladicy - 1860 census - Reynolds Co., Missouri
Leodica - 1870 census - Reynolds Co., Missouri
Leo D. L. - 1880 census - Reynolds Co., Missouri
Leodicy L. - In the Birth section of their family Bible
L. D. L. - In the Death section of their family Bible
AND finally
James Newton Carnahan and Mary Ann Jinkins Ivester Solomon named their first
daughter after both of his wives.
Mary Leo Dicia Carnahan - b. 1892
I have changed the spelling of this name in my database so many times.
Finally decided to go with Leo Dicia since that was the spelling they used
when they named their daughter. How do you feel about this?
And.. finally... that Logan name. We have absolutely no idea where that came
from. As far as we know she was not married before. She married James
Newton Carnahan at the age of 18. They did marry younger so I guess she could
have an earlier marriage. I have always wondered if Logan was her mother's
maiden name. Although I know her father was Richard Johnston, I have never
been able to identify her mother's name.
Thanks and take care - Emma
