Douglas. It is important to not believe what you discover on the internet but you can use
that information to help prove, or disprove, what you have been told. The data you have
posted is somewhat distorted. Please research what information I will give you as I have
documentation of my facts.
William Thompson was not a son of John Carnahan 1720-1778 and Eleanor Jack 1735-1805.
Linda might be able to help you on some of this.
There was not a Capt. Carnahan, nor a Lt. James Carnahan that died on May 31, 1788. He
was Major James Carnahan serving in the Cumberland County State militia in the
Revolutionary war and died May 31, 1788 in Westmoreland County.
As far as William Thompson Carnahan having a half brothner James Carnahan 1741-1808.
This is not true.
About where William Thompson Carnahan's birthplace is that his family came from
Cumberland County and the first record I have found for them in Westmoreland County was in
1772. (William Thompson Carnahan was born in 1770)
Later this year I hope to publish a genealogy of this family and you can check back in
a few months to check on it.
