Hi Everyone,
Another article on Jacob Preston Carnahan.

To Withdraw Their Candidate
Arkansas Republicans To Unite With The People's Party
Little Rock, Ark., Aug. 28 - Republican and People's Party political bosses from
different sections of the State are gathering here, it is thought, for a joint convention
tomorrow, the object of which is to withdraw the Republican Gubernatorial candidate from
the race and hurriedly instruct the Republican campaign managers throughout the State to
vote their followers for the People's Party Candidate.
Whipple has developed no strength whatever as a leader, while Carnahan has done so, and it
is proposed to pool their issues in both the September and November elections, the only
change being the withdrawal of the People's Party Presidential Electors the vote of
that party going to the Republican candidates. The field is being thoroughly canvassed by
the Populists. Weaver, Field, and "Cyclone" Davis of Texas are now doing
service for the latter.
Arkansas has not received such a thorough canvass from all political factions since the
war as is now going on in the State, but William M. Fishback, the Democratic standard
bearer, will be elected by the usual majority of 25,000.
Emma's Note: The paper's prediction was correct in that Jacob P. Carnahan lost
the election but if I remember correctly it was pretty close.....<grin>.
