The only record I have is a listing in the Carnahan Newsletters which
shows him as being unmarried.
I checked the 1860, 1870 & 1880 census for Davenport, IA and
he is living with the same family in each of those and is not shown
with any family. the only one which gives martial status is 1880 and
it says he is single.
The family he is living with in IA is the same family as you found him
with in 1850 in OH and the little girl Mary is the daughter if John &
Hannah Stevenson.

Hi Phil,
Thanks so much.
Question:
About this census record....
1850 - Keene, Coshocton, Ohio - pg. 216 - 151/157
John E. Stephenson - 30 - physician - Md
Hannah - 30 - Ohio
Hugh Carnahan - 33 - clerk - Ohio
Mary - 9 - Ohio
Would this be the same Hugh Carnahan?
It looks as if he is widowed and with a young child at the time.
Thanks again and take care - Emma

My records show that this Hugh Carnahan was the son of James
Carnahan (1769-1830) and his wife Catherine Dugan (1779-1842).
He is included in a fgs in the Carnahan Newsletters v10 #2 pg33.
