My name is Marie Wheatley. I live in Springfield, MO. My
grandfather was
James Read Jett, great-grandfather Eliga/Elijah Franklin Jett and
great-great-grandfather was James Franklin Jett that married Elizabeth Ann
CARNAHAN on January 2, 1857. I recently read a post on the CARNAHAN
website
that indicated Elizabeth remarried after James Franklin passed away.
Ok Marie.... here we go... <grin>,
Elizabeth Ann Carnahan - daughter of John Carnahan and Margaret England
b. 2 Sept 1835 Missouri - d. 18 Mar 1892 Wayne Co., Missouri
md 1st to James Franklin Jett on 20 Mar 1856 in Madison Co., Missouri.
I have a copy of their marriage record that reads thus:
County of Madison Mo
Married on the 20th day of March 1856 James P Jet of the county of Wayne to
Miss Elizabeth Ann Carnahan of Madison County
John Farr Minister of the Gospel
Filed & recorded June 2 1856
Edw'd Evans Clerk
And although we have always been told that his name was James Franklin Jett,
that does look like a P on that marriage information. I double checked it
against the F in Farr.
Their marriage record is also recorded in the John Carnahan Family Bible and
I have a copy of that bible record.
Children that I know of so far are:
Eliga Franklin Jett - 1858
Margaret Jett - 1858
John Jett - 1863
James Jett
Notes for James F or P Jett:
1838 - B. Record - Based on census records.
1850 - Census - Wayne Co., Mo - pg. 186a - 52/53: - his parents
Jett, Elijah - 49 - farmer - Va
Jett, Elizabeth - 40 - Mo
Jett, Jane E. - 14 - Ky
Jett, James P. - 12 - Ill
Jett, Sarah A. - ?? - Mo
1856 - Mar. 20 - M. Record - Madison Co., Missouri.
1860 - Census - Madison Co., Mo - pg. 129 - 929/929
James F. Jett - 22 - farmer - Ill
Elizabeth - 23 - Mo
Margaret - 2 - Mo
Elijah - 2 - Mo
1865 - Apr. - D. Record - According to Virginia Howard he was killed in the
last battle of the Civil War in Richmond, Va.
1870 - Census - Jackson Township, Carter Co., Missouri: (I was given this)
John Miller - 27
Elizabeth Miller - 35
Eliga Jett - 11
John Jett - 7
Mary Miller - 3
William Miller - 1
James Miller - 1/12
And then the 1880 census records were sent to the list earlier.
Now.. I have a death date for Elizabeth Ann Carnahan Jett Miller as 18 Mar
1892 and she is buried in Carson Hill Cemetery. However, according to David
Penny, John Miller married Mrs. Martha Susan Miller Purkey on Jan. 14, 1883
in Carter Co., Missouri. And..... according the USGenWeb pages for that
county a marriage between a John Miller and a Mrs. Martha Susan Miller Purkey
did take place. This Mrs. Murkey had one some named John Purkey. He also
indicates that John C. Miller and Martha had the following children:
Ida Miller - 10 Feb 1886
Dennis A. Miller
Charles Lafayette Miller - 22 Mar 1889
Isom Miller
Maggie Miller
Now.. if he married her in 1883 and Elizabeth did not die until 1892.
Well... are we looking at a divorce - beats me but if all this is right then
something happened.
Hope this helps a bie - take care - Emma
