David R. Carnahan
David R. Carnahan, of Armstrong township, died January 16, 1899, aged 90
years and
7 months. Mr. Carnahan was born and raised in Westmoreland
county. He married to Miss Martha Morrison, of Derry, Westmoreland county
i 1835. There were born to them seven children: Thomas of Shelocta; Mrs.
Herron, of Indiana; Margaret J. and Mrs. J. S. Pershing, deceased;
Israel, of Parkwood, and J. Morrison, of Crete. Mr. Carnahan moved to
Indiana county in 1851 and purchased a farm from James Clark, north of
Indiana and removed to Armstrong township in 1868. His first wife died in
1854. He then married Miss Levina Berkeypile in the year 1863, and to this
union there were born seven children: Harvey, of Crete; Miss Carrie E.,
at home; Mrs. N. M. Bothel and Levi, of Tannery; Mrs. J. C. White, of
Crete; David M. of Schelocta, and Dickie R., at home. He joined the
Presbyterian church of Indiana under Rev. McElwain, to which he belonged
until he removed to Armstrong township, when!
he joined the United Presbyterian church of Crete. Mr. Carnahan
was a
kind and loving father and husband and much respected by all who knew him.
Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. M. S. Telford,
Wedneday, at 10 o'clock, interment being made in Oakland.
