What I know about Cornelius Carnahan is what is in his obit. It reads as
follows:

OLD RAILROADER TAKEN BY DEATH
cORNELIUS cARNAHAN, AGED RETIRED CONDUCTOR AND GROCER, EXPIRES; MARRIED 55
YEARS
Cornelius Carnahan, former Monon railroad conductor and local grocer, died at
12:30 o'clock Saturday noon at the family home,2328 North Nineteenth St.,
where last Sunday he and his wife observed their 55th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Carnahan, 80 years old, had been in good health until last Monday, when
he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He had been unconscious ever since.
Born near Brownsville, PA. Dec. 25, 1850, he was a son of James and Rosanna
Carnahan. The family, including Cornelius, moved by covered wagon, when he
was four years old, to Wisconsin. At the age of 21 he went to Chicago, where
he entered the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad as a brakeman, later
being promoted to conductor. After four years service on the Rock Island,
the family moved to Lafayette. For 25 years he was conductor on the Monon.
Giving up this work, he operated a grocery at 19th and Schuyler Ave. from
which business he retired in 1920.
On March 15, 1876, he was married to Emma E. Cleveland, in Congress M.E.
Church, Chicago. He was a member of the First Baptist church here and of the
Order of Railway Conductors, No. 302.
Surviving are the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Walter Gish, Beaumont, Texas;
Mrs. Oscar Rudluff, Sand Springs, OK; Mrs. J. W. Harper,Detroit, and Mrs.
Arthur Lahr, Lafayette; a son, H,. M. Carnahan of Dyer, IN; two brothers,
William Carnahan, Wittenbert, WI and Joseph Carnahan, Black River Springs,
WI; with nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
The body was removed to the Templeton funeral home, where it was announced it
might be viewed after 3 p.m. Sunday.
