Emma,
Have you been able to locate a wayward Abraham Carnahan anywhere in the 1840
or 1850 census?
He could very well be a child of Hugh Carnahan. I don't recall ever seeing
him in the Missouri group. Hiram Carnahan, son of Hugh Carnahan did migrate
to Oregon in the 1840's. He settled there.
That's all I know.

Subject: [CARNAHAN-L] Hugh Carnahan - son of Andrew Carnahan and Elizabeth
Billingsley.
Evening Everyone,
I posted this a long time ago but thought I would give it another try as I
have a bit more information.
Hugh Carnahan - son of Andrew Carnahan and Elizabeth Billingsley
md 21 June 1806 in Rutherford Co., Tn to
Elizabeth Tennison
Based on various information we have these children for Hugh and
Elizabeth:
Mary - b. abt 1808
male - b. 1810/1820
John - b. 15 June 1810
James - b. abt 1812
Nancy - b. abt 1815
Hiram - b. 22 July 1820
Jane - b. 1820/1825
Elizabeth - b. abt 1822
In the 1820 census for Rutherford Co., Tn Hugh is listed as:
4 males under 10 (1810/1820) = John, James, Hiram, and an unknown male
1 male 26-45 (1775/1794) = Hugh
2 females under 10 (1810/1820) = Mary & Nancy
1 female 26-45 (1775/1794) = Elizabeth
Hugh dies about 1824
In the 1830 census of Rutherford Co., Tn Elizabeth is listed as:
1 male 5-10 = Hiram
1 male 10-15 = James
1 male 15-20 = John
2 females 5-10 = Jane & Elizabeth
1 female 10-15 = Nancy
1 female 15-20 = Mary
1 female 40-50 = Elizabeth
So all the children are there except that 1 male that was under 10 in the
1820 census.
But... also in the 1830 census there is this listing:
Abram Carnahan - 00001-00001
1 male 20-30 (1800/1810)
1 female 20-30 (1800/1810)
We have wondered before if this Abram Carnahan was also a son of Hugh
Carnahan and Elizabeth Tennison. The age would work as does the location.
The
confusing thing is that in 1846 there are some land transactions in
Cannon
Co.,
Tennessee that involve the heirs of Hugh Carnahan and this Abram is
not
included.
However..... I just found this on the Youree GenForum site:
Entry in Chancery Court Minutes of Rutherford Co., Tn - 23 Oct. 1857 - pg.
188 - Minute Book C.
John W. Conley, Executor of Andrew Carnahan, vs James Carnahan, Sarah
Carnahan, Elizabeth Carnahan, Abraham Carnahan, John Carnahan, J.
Carnahan, Nancy
Carnahan, James Carnahan, Jr., Hiram Carnahan, Mary Carnahan, John
Carnahan,
William Yourie, Francis Yourie, Andrew Yourie, Adeline Yourie, James
Yourie, David
Yourie, William Yourie, Jr., Joseph Yourie, Thomas Yourie, Isabella
Yourie,
Philander Alexander Yourie, Martha Yourie, Pates Yourie, Finis
Yourie,
Ewen
Yourie, and Thomas Carnahan.
Now... all those Yourie folks are descendants of Andrew Carnahan's
daughter
who married William Hart Youree.
But... look at the Carnahan folks - not in the same order they are listed
above!
James Carnahan - probably son of Andrew Carnahan and Elizabeth Billingsley
Sarah Carnahan - probably 2nd wife of Andrew Carnahan
Thomas Carnahan - son of Andrew Carnahan & Elizabeth Billingsley
John Carnahan - probably son of Andrew Carnahan & Elizabeth Billingsley
who
md Sarah Dickey - Do you suppose they did now know he was deceased?
Ok.. if you line those folks up that way and include the Youree listings
that
takes care of 4 of Andrew's children - James, John, Thomas, and
Mary.
So... that would leave Hugh Carnahan who married Elizabeth Tennison. And
the
list of those left match the children of Hugh and Elizabeth in terms
of
the
census - if you include the Abraham.
Elizabeth Carnahan
Abraham Carnahan
John Carnahan
J. Carnahan - Believe this is daughter, Jane Carnahan
Nancy Carnahan
James Carnahan Jr.
Hiram Carnahan
Mary Carnahan
So... what do you think? Can we add this Abraham Carnahan as a child of
Hugh Carnahan and Elizabeth Tennison?????
It would certainly be normal for them to name a child Abraham since
Elizabeth
Tennison's father was Abraham Tennison.
Any ideas, comments...<g>.
Thanks and take care - Emma
