400 acres of land were purchased in 1784 by David Carnahan, born in Ireland, who came to
America in 1770 & fought for the Colonies in the Revolutionary War.
..his brother James Carnahan was a midshipmen in the British Navy & tradition says
that once during the war, with permission of American & British officers, they were
able to meet.
When David Carnahan died, his land was inherited by his 3 sons, Wm., Alexander, &
Joseph. The village of Banksville was laid out on the share of Alexander Carnahan by
George S. Carnahan. grandson of the original settler. He gave the town the name in honor
of his wife, whose maiden name was Banks...."
