Re: Hugh - The first record I can find of Hugh is in Benjamin Franklin's Philadelphia
Gazeteer. "Hugh Kernochan of Pennsylania" is listed as having mail at the Post
Office
2 February 1764.
I have a Hugh Carragan in Kennett, Chester County, Pennsylvania in the 1735 tax records.
Note the difference in pronounciation.
There is also a Hugh Caraghan (note sp.) whose estate was administered in Cumberland
County, Pennsylvania on 6 Sept 1802. Adm: Thomas Urie and Elizabeth Cooper of MIddleton
Township - bond paid by John Anderson and Andrew Murray.
Another researcher asked me a question yesterday about Rev. John son of Hugh. Why is it
that his tombstone shows the birth year 1756 - and the records of Guilford, NC lead us to
believe it is 1768? Does anyone have an answer to this? This is a huge gap.
I thought I would open my files and share some other early Carnahan (?) records:

I hope we can liven things up a bit on the list. I think if we share what we have - we
may be able to solve some of these Carnahan mysteries. Linda
