Hi Everyone,
This article is one just for fun.
Washington Post - 5 Feb 1913 - pg. 9
No. 2 1/2 Shoes Fits These "Trilbies"
Miss Charlotte Lewis and Miss Lucy Carnahan are credited with having the most nearly
perfect feet in St. Louis and if a single choice were demanded the plam would go to Miss
Lewis. Her feet are a wee bit tinier than those of Miss Carnahan. In conformation lines,
coloring, perfection of nails, and arches Miss Lewis' feet closely approximate the
standards accepted as perfect.
The shoes of modern fashion, Miss Lewis admits, have done something toward spoiling the
natural symmetry of the toes.
Miss Lewis wears a No. 2 1/2 shoe on an AA last, the narrowest made. Miss Carnahan is
fitted for 3s on an A last. Miss Carnahan is sturdier by fifteen pounds than Miss Lewis.
Considering that the average size shoe for American womankind is 3 1/2, Miss Carnahan
possesses a small, as well as a most shapely foot.
Miss Lewis is well below the average, her foot being 8 1/2 inches long and 2 5/8 inches
across the ball.
Miss Carnahan's feet measure 8 2/3 inches in length and are 2 3/4 inches wide.
And then... there is a picture of Miss Charlotte Lewis standing barefooted and slightly
holding her dress up.
Ther is also a circle with another pair of feet. Underneath it says "feet of Miss
Estelle Carnahan". I don't know if Lucy Carnahan and Estelle Carnahan are the
same people or not...<g>.
Ok... have a great day - Emma
