Hi Phil - I hope I didn't sound discouraged. I wish we didn't have so many
"unsolved" Carnahan mysteries out there. The documentation on some of these
families is certainly lacking. I feel bad when we know some of these lines
(like Alice's) certainly fit but we don't have that little piece that would
help her.
If there was a War of 1812 pension file - there would be good information in
it. If he didn't have descendants there may not be one. Parents could apply
for pensions, too- if their son helped supply income for them. There is a
War of 1812 index - military and pension. I will put it on my list to check
next time I am at the library.
You can write the National Archives for pension records - it used to be very
minimal - it is almost $40 now for a file. BUT if they are Rev. War pension
records - all of those are on microfilm at the Family History Library and
you can order those for a mere $3.50 from local family history centers -
which is a "crackin'" good deal : )
There are also books of Rev. War pension abstracts that are quite good. I
use them at the Family History Library but I know that they are available in
other libraries, too. If I get a chance I will see how many abstracts there
are on the Carnahans - and maybe I will post them here. Linda

No... I know, but I thought that is was really neat that the local
folks put up something like that for someone from outside the area.
Is there a military file for his service in the War of 1812? That should
give some information as to his origin. I've never looked for info
on soldiers in that war. Is it even available?
