My name is Norman L. Carnahan. I live in Russellville, Ar. Athough I do not
come out of what I call Arkansas John, I have done some research on him. As
a matter of fact some of my files were completed by a great, great grand
daughter of Arkansas John. Arkansas John is my designation since there are
so many John Carnahans. This John was married to Janet Billingsly and
produced 6 children. My records of the names of the children differs from
your list. Here are the names I have in order--Ann---Scye
(Josephena)---Martha---Samuel---James and Benjamin. John divorced Janet and
married Mary (Lame Polly) Pyeatte daughter of James Pyeatte and Catherine
Findley. John was 70 years old at the time of this marriage and it produced
no children. I don't know who Gillford is but suspect he was a child of
Mary's from a former marriage. However he could have been any number of
Pyeattes. Scye--Martha and Samuel all married Pyaettes.
The Carnahans and Pyaettes were closely tied. When John was sent to Arkansas
to establish the Arkansas Presbytery, He brought the Pyaettes with him..
Sorry I can't help you anymore than this. These children would have been
from either James or Benjamin most likely (that's a guess) because I have
Samuels childrens names and none of these names appear. Don't know how else
I can help but will share anything that I have. carneyc(a)ipa.net -----

Subject: [CARNAHAN-L] John Carnahan - 1768-1838 Ark
Good Morning Everyone,
Need some help.
John Carnahan - son of Hugh Carnahan and Mary
b. abt 1768 - d. 23 Sept 1838 in Washington Co., Arkansas.
md Jane Billingsley on 24 Nov 1788 in Guilford Co., NC
children that I know of:
Ann - 1791
Martha (Patsy) - 1792
James - 1794
Samuel - 1796
Benjamin J. - 1798
Adam - 1801
Jophena - 1803
John Carnahan's will is very interesting. He gives everything he had to
Gifford Pyeate provided that Gifford supports John and his wife (this
would
be his second wife Polly Pyeate) for the rest of their lives. And if
gifford
Pyeate fails to fulfill this agreement then everything goes to his
wife to
dispose of as she wishes with one request. His wife is to pay $1.00 to
sons
Samuel and Benjamin, daughters Ann, Patsey, and Josephena and
grandchildren
John Carnahan, Robert D. Carnahan, and Matilda Jane Carnahan.
Question -- These grandchildren - John, Robert D., and Matilda Jane.
Whose
children are they? I believe that Robert D. is Robert Daniel who was
born
abt 1823 in Arkansas and was killed in the Civil War in 1865.
Would really appreaciate any help in matching up these folks - Thanks -
Emma
