Hi, Corina. Hilda Sharpe Carnahan was the half-sister of my grandmother, Leona Mildred
Carnahan. Her father was David Slater Carnahan and mother Carrie Tate (Helmrich). Tate
was her maiden name and Helmrich, her first husband's name.
After his first wife died, David Carnahan came to Texas in 1899 from Mansfield, Ohio. He
lived in and around Center, Tx where his brother had a hardware store. He married Carrie
Tate Helmrich in Cameron, Tx in 1900. They moved to Marlin, TX and then to Timpson, TX
where David owned and operated Carnahan Laundry. Carrie died in Timpson, TX in August,
1904, just 3 months after Hilda was born. Hilda Sharpe Carnahan died of "whooping
cough" in March, 1905 and is buried in Timpson, TX. Other names that surface around
this time are: Wattie Tate (brother to Carrie) and "Grandma" Tate.
I hope this gives you some connection to this child. I am most interested in a connection
myself and would like to have a copy of the picture that you have. I have a picture of
Hilda Sharpe Carnahan and all the children of David Slater Carnahan and her other
half-sister Addie Helmrich. I will be happy to share what I have if we have a connection
somewhere.
Alice Benson
