Hi Marie,
Thanks so much for the information. But would like to talk about this
information that Andrew Carnahan who was born in 1762 and died in 1839 was
the son of Joseph Carnahan. Everything I have seen has this Andrew
Carnahan
as the son of Hugh Carnahan and Mary.
Here is part of the info. I have for Andrew.
1762 - June 11 - Baltimore Co., Maryland - B. Record - Info. from his Rev.
War Pension Application.
1778 - Served in Rev. War - Several short tours of duty - Residing in
Guilford Co., NC at the time - Info. from his Rev. War Pension
Application.
1780 - Mar. 1 - NC land grant to Andrew & John Kernachan - 640
acres on
both
sides of Long Branch - Neighbors were William Gowdy, John White,
Archibald
Campbell, James Campbell, William Howlett, Henry Ross, Thomas Anderson,
William Anderson, John Blair, & Robert McQuestion - Guilford Co., NC
(State
Grant No. 435) (Deed Bk. 2, pg. 114)
1781 - Aug. Term - Guilford Co., North Carolina - Andrew is listed as
orphan
of Hugh Carnahan and chooses William Anderson as guardian.
1781 - Fall - Enlisted and served 13 months & 12 days in Rev. War.
1781 - Jan. 9 - M. Record - Info. from Andrew Carnahan Family Bible. He
married Elizabeth Billingsley.
1784 - Feb. Term - Mary Carnahan, 10 years old, born May 1774 - Bound to
Andrew Carnahan to age 18 - guilford Co., NC - This is his younger sister
Mary. In the Aug. term of 1781 she is bound to John Campbell. In the May
term of 1782 she is bound to James Coates and then in 1790 her other
brother
John Carnahan is appointed her guardian.
All total in the Guilford Co., NC records we can some up with 4 children
for
Hugh Carnahan and Mary:
1 - Andrew - b. 1832 & d. 1839
2 - Sarah - b. abt 1766 - Untimately married Thomas Blair. But she is in
the
courts prior to her marriage as she apparently had a child out of
wedlock
by
a James Doherty. She and her sister Mary also receive a tract of
land
from
their mother Mary. In 1788, Thomas Blair sells that land to William
Gowdy.
3 - John Carnahan - b. abt 1768 - d. 1838 in Cane Hill, Washington,
Arkansas.
In 1783 he is listed as age 15 and is being bound to James
Billingsley to
learn the trade of carpenter. He later married James Billingsley's
daughter.
And... one more thing... although a John Carnahan did fight in the
Rev.
War,
it was not this John Carnahan.
4 - Mary Carnahan - the younger sister who lives with various people after
their parents death.
Anyway... .... I think it does appear that Andrew was the son of Hugh and
Mary rather than Joseph. Does anyone have anything different. Sure would
like to find out who Hugh Carnahan's parents were and what Mary's last
name
was.
Thanks so much and take care - Emma
