Subject: Re: [CARNAHAN] Penn. Carnahans and Ohio Carnahan
I believe this JOHN CARNAHAN is my 5th great grandfather. However, I
have seen various dates and places for him. He was born in Legoniel,
Antrim, Ireland. He was born in Westmoreland, PA. Linda, I would be
interested in any information you have on this branch. Thanks.
He married ELEANOR JACK and their son WILLIAM THOMPSON CARNAHAN is my
line.
You are the first I've seen to call him "Col". From where did he earn
that title? Local militia?
Here is my line, as I know it and please anyone, correct me if I'm
wrong.
Gen 1: John Carnahan b.1737 either Ireland or PA d. Aug 1777
Carnahans Bock, Westmoreland, PA m. Eleanor Jack b. 1735 Cumberland,
PA d. 1805 Westmoreland, PA
I know he must have moved to KY at some point here since a few of the
children were born there and William below was married there.
Gen 2: William Thompson Carnahan b. 1 Nov 1770 (not sure where) d. 23
Feb 1838 Darke Co, OH m. 27 Aug 1795 Green Co, KY to Frances "Fanny"
Quigley b. 12 May 1773/74 d. 24 Sep 1855 Logan Co, IL
If ANYONE knows anything about this Quigley family, please let me
know. I've struck out everywhere.
Gen 3: Elias Langum Carnahan Sr b. 17 Oct 1804 OH d. 3 Oct 1874
Logan Co, IL m. 22 Jan 1828 Darke or Clark Co, OH to Catharine Martin
b. 11 Jul 1808 Alleghany, PA d. 4 Jul 1894 Lincoln, Logan, IL
Gen 4: Martin Christopher Carnahan b. 27 Aug 1838 Greenville, Darke
Co, OH d. 27 Jul 1911 Sedgwick, KS m. 7 Oct 1858 in Lincoln, Logan Co,
IL to Lodema Hatfield b. 31 Dec 1839 Darke or Clark Co, OH d. 17 Apr
1917 Sedgwick, KS
I will send a separate email to the group about this, but if you are
descended from one of the children of the marriage of Martin and
Lodema, you are a direct descendant of Richard Warren who was a
Mayflower passenger. The line comes down through Lodema Hatfield so
only the Carnahan children from them could qualify in this particular
line. When I say qualify, I mean be able to "prove" your descent to
the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, which I have done for
myself. As I said, I will give more details in a separate email to
the group.
Gen 5: Charlotte Alice Carnahan b. 6 Nov 1865 Lincoln, IL d. 14 Feb
1939 Harvey Co, KS m. 14 Apr 1883 Sedgwick, KS to Oscar Olmedo Adamson
b. 6 Nov 1859 Henry Co, IN d. 19 Mar 1939 Harvey Co, KS
The Adamson line then comes down to my mother.
Please let me know if anyone is of this line and has any corrections
or additions.
Thanks,
Sharon

Hi Carl - My expertise is really Pennsylvania Carnahans before 1800
or just around that time - but I can tell you that quite a few
descendants of Col. John Carnahan (who m. Eleanor) went down into
Ohio. Also Adam Carnahan of the Blockhouse Carnahans had a son
Kennedy that went that way among others. People were really on the
move after the Revolutionary War - not to mention many of the
immigrant families that came over then. How far back have you
traced them?

Subject: [CARNAHAN] Penn. Carnahans and Ohio Carnahan
I notice so many Penn. Carnahans posting and I have wondered if
anyone has a connection between that part of the family and those
who settled and stayed around Cadiz or at least Morrow County,
Ohio. Most of my family was in that area before and after the Civil
War. Any info or guesses??
