Hi Carolyn,
I saw Frank's message to you and realized that it was attached to a reply to
me and my heart stopped because I didn't remember getting your response. Went
back to check and sure enough - there is was. Am so sorry that I did not
respond sooner.
As Frank said, he is descended from Mary Jane Carnahan and Jacob Ivester.
Mary Ann Carnahan was the daughter of James Carnahan - b. abt 1812 in
Rutherford Co., Tn.
I am descended from John Carnahan and Margaret England. John Carnahan was
born 15 June 1810 in Rutherford Co., Tn.
Both James and John are the children of Hugh Carnahan and Elizabeth Tennison.
I have found Clyde in the 1930 census but have not been able to locate either
John W. or Lula. Do you by anychance know where they might be in 1930?
I have most of the other census records if you would like them. Would be
happy to send them.
As for your line itself:
John W. Carnahan & Sarah Lula Kirkland
Robert Thompson Carnahan & Orlenia Boxx
John Carnahan and Margaret England
Hugh Carnahan and Elizabeth Tennison
Andrew Carnahan & Elizabeth Billingsley
Hugh Carnahan & Mary.
Take care - Emma

Emma,
Thanks for the reply.
John W. and Sarah Lula also had two daughters who died in infancy. I do not
know their names. James died in Feb 21 1925 from tuberculosis. (source: John
W. obit) I don't have the date of Clyde's death but it was about 1933 from a
heart attack. He was editor of the Desha County Democrat. Clyde's only
child
was Francis Neil who was born in 1924 and died in 1967. I am Francis's
daughter. He was editor of the Eudora Enterprise, Eudora, AR.
An unverified family story is that Sarah Lula died just a few weeks after I
was born in 1947. Since her daughters died in infancy and she had only one
grandchild, a boy, she was, I was told, excited about having a ggranddaughter
and
was looking forward to all the fun we were going to have. However the one
time she saw me, she had a cold and didn't get near me for fear of giving it
to
me. That illness, I was told, was her fatal illness. Since I am fairly new
to genealogy, I have not yet taken the time to verify this story.
I would be interested in any information you have about my ancestry.
