Those dates helped and you have him lined up correctly.
James Richards Carnahan who was involved in the Knights of Pythias was the
son of James Aikman and Martha Ann Dawson.
He is listed in Who Was Who In America: A component volume of Who's Who In
american History, Vol. 1, 1897-1942. Chicago: A.N. Marquis Co., 1943
b. 18 Nov 1840
d. Aug 1905
md Susan Elizabeth Patterson - 7 Nov 1867
parents Rev. James Aikman Carnahan & Martha Ann Carnahan
no children listed
Then.. found some more on him in newspapers but will need to send that later

All the references I've seen keep referring to the same guy, the same
military unit in the Civil War, etc. I still haven't found a roster of
members for the Knights of Pythias which lists his full name or
provides a bio on him.
