This is John Robert Carnahan, born 23 Feb 1827, died 4 June 1911.
He was the fourth child of Matthew Carnahan (1798-1875) and his
wife Lillie Laughlin (1800-1843).

John R. Carnahan
John R. Carnahan, for many years well known as a carpenter and contractor in Indiana,
died at his home on
West Philadelphia street, on Sunday evening at 8 o'clock,
death having resulted from a hardening of the
arteries. Mr. Carnahan was one of the county's oldest residents, being in his 84th
year. Before coming to
Indiana in 1879, he lived for years on the farm in White township on which the mining town
of Carneytown now
stands. Mr. Carnahan was the father of seven children, all of whom are now dead. His
first wife died a
number of years ago. In 1902 he was married to Mrs. Jane Peelor, who with two sisters,
Mrs. Sarah Getty of
town and Mrs. Mary Gibson, of Creekside, survived.
The deceased saw active service during the Civil War, having enlisted
in Co. K., 67th Regt Pa Vol Inf in
October, 1862. He participated in the battles of
Winchester, Travellion Station, Petersburg, Rheam's Station,
Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, and Appomattox. He was discharged from the service at the
close of the war in
1865. He was a member of the Indiana Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be
conducted at his late
home, 1251 West Philadelphia street on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in
Oakland Cemetery.

The will of John R. Carnahan makes the following bequests: All his household utensils
and furniture to his
wife, Jane E. Carnahan; tools and all personal property in his
shop to his grandson, Arlington Hook; his
house and lot on Philadelphia street to his wife. All just debts and funeral expenses are
to be paid as soon
as possible; after all just debts and other expenses are paid, $500 is given to his
niece, Inez Getty. The
remainder of his estate is given to his grandson, Arlington Hook. D. H. Tomb, Esq., is
named as executor of
the document which is dated April 1, 1906
