I have only been on this list a couple days. Just for fun, I now went
into the DAR files and find a Capt. James Carnahan with spouse Jane
Freyer. Therefore, I feel that you could safely say he was a patriot in
the Revolution.

Phil - Thank you - this is a wonderful obit. This line was one that Cora
Lynn Davis wrote down in the late 1800's. Her mother was the 1/2 sister of
General James R. Carnahan.
(For those who don't know - Cora Lynn Davis b. 1863 was an enthusiastic
Carnahan researcher )
She gives the Carnahan ancestry of James R. Carnahan as:
General James R. Carnahan
James Aikman Carnahan and Martha Ann Dawson
James Carnahan and Elizabeth Aikman
James Carnahan and Jane Freyer (of Kentucky)
William Carnahan (of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania)
Cora Lynn Davis mentions that James Carnahan who married Jane Freyer was
in the Revolutionary War. I don't believe that I have seen any military
records that I can positively identify as his, though. Linda
