In the past, the records were not well kept. It would be helpful to find out the standard
number of graves per lot. The big lot, with no markers, that is at the extreme back, on
the side overlooking Uncle Bill's house, is where Uncle VIrge said James and Mary
Fitz-Randolph Carnahan are no doubt buried, but no official record. He said there were 5
graves. Five graves per lot is the standard number up here. On Hugh's lot, but
I'm not sure it's officially recorded, would be Hugh, his wife Liz (surname
unknown) and their son Thomas, who died about age 16 I think, probably of TB. If Ben and
Jerry Maitland are also on Hugh's lot, that would also make 5 graves. I don't
know who, or when Ben's marker was placed but it was there when I first became
interested and went to the court houses and cemeteries all over PA with your dear
Grandmother. Thomas m. Mary Taylor. Previously, there were two stones there, bearing
Thomas' name. One, a much older stone, in appearance. He died!
before Mary, but waste not, want not--she was buried under his second stone. Then
someone in the family, I can't remember who, thought she should have one of her own
and bought it and had it placed BUT on the place where the older stone had been. Thus,
they both have their own stones (ruining a good story) but I think they may be on the
wrong grave. Does the cemetery have a map and can you obtain a copy if they do??
Margaret has some descendants in this area, I've discovered. I met them once but the
older gentleman was hesitant about discussing family history and I'm not pushy. I
will try to call them and ask about where she is buried. He shouldn't be reluctant to
tell me that much. It's a great pity the records were not better kept, but death
certificates at the court house do list burial site. I just wish I were able to do the
traveling, but it's your baby now, Kristen. Have fun.
