HI Charolette,
Now... Green S. Carnahan is getting interesting.
As for those two listings in 1860 I think he was actually in Arkansas at the
time. But his family included him in their listing in Missouri. I have seen
this in other entries. I guess since he wasn't married they still considered
him part of their family. This happened with my uncle in 1920. He was in
school in Oklahoma City and is in the census there. But, the listing for the
family in Beckham Co., Oklahoma also shows him as a son.
In 1870 Green S. Carnahan is in Lamar Co., Texas - living with the W. Mackey
family with this listing:
Carnahan, G. S. - 34 - wd - farmer - Ark
Was he really married twice????
I can't get to the 1880 census right now - that page on Ancestry is
missing... <sigh>
But... in 1910 - Precinct #6, Lamar Co., Texas - ED #97 - pg. 1A - 8/8 there
is this entry:
Carnahan, William - head - 32 - md1 - 0 yrs - Tx-Ark-Ala - farmer
Ema - wife - 20 - md1 - 0 yrs - Tx-Mo-Ark
Green - father - 74 - div - Ark-Tn-Tn - farm laborer
and this entry
1910 - 3rd ward, Paris, Lamar Co., Texas - ED #84 - pg. 11A - 169/177
Echols, Fate - head - 51 - md1 - 29 yrs - Tn-SC-Va - operates elevator crate
factory
Dora - wife - 49 - md1 - 29 yrs - 7/5 - Tx-Ala-Ala
Ray - son - 20 - s - Tx-Tn-Tx - ???? crate factory
May - daughter - 17 - s - Tx-tn-Tx
Rose Ella - daughter - 12 - s- Tx-tn-Tx
Vida - daughter - 10 - s - Tx-Tn-Tx
Carnahan, Arminda - mother-in-law - wd/d - 7/4 - Ala-Ala-Ala
So by 1910 Green and Arminda were divorced.
So far I have these children for Green and Arminda - are there others?
Dora - abt 1861
Joseph B. - abt 1875
William - abt 1878

Carnahan, William - head - 32 - md1 - 0 yrs - Tx-Ark-Ala - farmer

Hi Charolette,
Sorry it took me so long to get back with you.
There are still plenty of holes but am hoping some of this will fill in some
for you.
And.. yes.. thanks to you found them in Taney Co., Missouri listed as
Taylor's.
Will start with Samuel Carnahan - son of Benjamin Young Carnahan.
Samuel married Mary - do you by any chance know her maiden name?
So far I have these children - are there others?
Benjamin Harvey - abt 1869
James - abt 1870
Billie - abt 1872
Samuel - abt 1874
Sarah - abt 1879

Mary - 26 - keeping house - Tn
Benjamin - 1 - at home - Ark
James - 2/12 - at home - Ark
1880 - Prairie, Newton Co., Arkansas - ED #115 - pg. ??? - 364/373

Sarah - 1 - daughter - s - Ark-Ark-Tn
Ok... see next message.

Good Afternoon,
I have another Carnahan question for all of you.
Robert Oscar Carnahan - b. 29 Mar 1879 in Reynolds Co., Missouri
son of James Newton Carnahan and Leo Dicia Johnston
md Idelle (Ida) Clark on 18 Jan 1904 in Coalgate, Choctaw Nation, Indian
Territory
They were divorced on 15 Oct 1925 in Latimer Co., Oklahoma.
Robert Oscar died in 1936 in Sayre, Beckham Co., Oklahoma
I found them in the 1920 census in DeWar, Okmulgee Co., Oklahoma - ED #108,
pg. 5A - 91/91
Carnahan, Ida - head - 40 - md - No-Ill-Ind - manager hotel
Oscar - husband - 39 - md - Mo-USA-USA - miner coal mine
Neabeauer(?), Opal - step-daughter - 14 - s - Ok-Germany-Tx
They were running a boarding house with several boarders listed with them
Now.... this census makes no sense to me. According to my mother (Robert
Oscar's niece), Robert Oscar and Ida had no children - at any time - either of
them. So this step daughter listed here is very interesting.
I cannot find either of them in the 1930 census.
But... My mother said that after Robert Oscar and Ida were divorced he went
to Colorado and worked in the mines there. He became ill. My grandfather
brought him back to Sayre. My grandfather located Ida in Norman, Oklahoma where
she was running a boarding house for OU students and she came back to Sayre and
took care of Robert Oscar until he died in 1936.
I don't know what happened to Ida after 1936.
If anyone runs across these folks in 1930 I sure would appreciate it. The
1910 and 1900 census would be nice too. I haven't found Robert there either.
By the way... Robert Oscar was known as Uncle Jack to the family.
Thanks and take care - Emma
And one more....
Found Charles Carnahan - son of Sephroneous.
According to the 1910 census he married a Barbara. That census shows this:
Indian Twp., Payne Co., Oklahoma - ED #193 - pg. 7B - 126/126
Carnahan, Charley - head - 38 - md1 - 13 yrs - Ill-Ill-Ill - farmer
Barbara - wife - md1 - 13 yrs - 7/7 - Iowa-Germany-Iowa
Olive - daughter - 12 - s - Ok-Ill-Iowa
Ima B. - daughter - 1? - s - Ok (she may be 10 yrs old)
Anna B. - daughter - 10 - s - Ok
Mariam - daughter - 7 - s - Ok
Raymon - 6 - s - Ok
Mable - daughter - 4 - s- Ok
Opal - daughter - 2 - Ok
Wow.... when I look at some of these census records I just marvel at these
folks. Can you imagine having 7 children in 13 years....<sigh>.
Take care all - Emma
Phil,
You are a wonder. I must admit I would never have come up with that
spelling.
Ok... putting all those census records together I now have these children for
Sephronous.
Cora B. - abt 1868
Betsy - abt 1870
Lucy - abt 1871
James Evart - Apr 1872
Charles - abt 1875
Sylvia - abt 1876
Hattie - abt 1878
Braxton B. - July 1885
Marie - Dec 1890
Does that sound about right to you?
Take care - Emma

I saw this one, but the name Sylvia doesn't show up on any census

And who does the granddaughter Jennie Steel listed on the 1910

Hi Phil,
Thanks so much for this info. It really did help.
Those children are a bit of a mystery...<g>.
I did find this census also:
Chelsea, Rogers Co., Oklahoma - ED #5 - pg. 9A - 178/181
Carnahan, Sarah J. - head - 78 - wd - Ill-Ill-Ky
James E. - son - 56 - s- Neb-Ohio-Ill - dispatcher messenger
But for the life of me I can't find Sephronous and family i the 1920 census.
Have tried every variation I can think of.
As for the rest of Sephroneous' children I have not had much luck with the
daughters. I tried for those names listed in the obit in the 1920 census and
did not have much luck.
Did find this one though.
The obit lists a daughter Mrs. P. Fisher of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
I found this entry for 1920:
Tulsa, Tulsa Co., Oklahoma - ED #207 - pg. 4B - /103
Fisher, Piercell - 51 - ohio-ohio-ohio - caser oil co
Sylvia - 42 - Mo-Ill-Ohio
Ethel - 24 - Ok-Ohio-Mo
What do you think?????
Thanks again and take care - Emma

Hi Bob,
Sorry it has taken me so long to answer. Here is what I have on these folks:
Sephronous Carnahan and Sarah Jane David
I also have his name spelled Safronious. Do you have any idea which is
correct?
Anyway....
Sephronous and Sarah married on 19 Sept 1867 - Info. from Illinois Marriage
Records, 1851-1900 and the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900
So far I have these children for them:
Cora B. - b. abt 1868
Betsy - b. abt 1870
James E. - b. Apr 1872
Braxton B. - b. July 1885
Marie - b. Dec 1890
Census records - after their marriage are:

Carnahan, S. - 26 - farmer - Ohio
Sarah - 20 - keeping house - Ill
Cora B. - 2 - Ill

1900 - Creek Nation, Indian Territory - ED #54 - pg. 13B - 183/184
Carnahan, Sephronseous - head - Oct 1842 - 57 - md 37 yrs - Ohio-Ky-Ohio -

Marie - daughter - 20 - s - Kan-Ohio-Ohio

It is interesting that in 1900 Sarah says she has had 10 children with 8
living and in 1910 she says she has had 7 children with 7 living. I am guessing
that she has had 10 children and in 1910 someone else answered and they were
only aware of the 7 living children. So we still don't know all of their
children from these census records. Finding the 1880 would help.
So far I haven't found them in 1920 or 1930 yet. But they are possibly
deceased. I did find Braxton B. Carnahan in the 1910 & 1920 census.
1910 - Olive, Creek Co., Oklahoma - ED #48 - pg. 1A - 9/9

My Alexander Carnahan arrived in the Pt. of Phila around 1856 and it would appear that he had brothers James and William. Perhaps there were more. They settled in Bucks Co., PA and raised families. They were from northern Ireland. I have little info except that Alexander and brothers were born in the 1820's. Any additional info would be appreciated.

This line could be the line I am looking for. I am looking for Alexander. From what I have found, I believe that he also had brothers, William, James, Joseph and perhaps Thomas. Those named settled in Bucks Co., PA. Alexander came with his wife, Mary. They would have had their first child around 1856. Is it possible that they arrived in 1856 as I have found immagration records for the Pt. of Phila. with that name. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Good morning Emma. Were you able to locate the Carnahan children in the 1860 census in Taney County Missouri. I noticed they are all listed with the Taylor last name; however, we know they are Carnahans. Also, what are your thoughts about Greene being listed in Missouri and Arkansas 1860 census and what are your thoughts about where George might be. I have been searching the 1910 census in Ar, Mo, and Tx for Samuel's family but have not been successful in locating them. I know that Samuel had mail delivered to him in 1909 in Boone County but have found no records of the wife or two children that are included in the 1900 Boone County Census. If you run across anything that looks promising, I would appreciate your advising me where I might search for them.
Thanks for all of your Carnahan research, I enjoy your postings.

and Polly Carnahan, all except William Marrs being heirs of James Billingsley
who departed this life many years past leaving as his heirs the following
children: Samuel, Henry, John, and James Billingsley, Jane Carnahan, wife of
John Carnahan, Polly the wife of Joseph Shannon, Margaret the wife of Samuel
Shannon, and Elizabeth the wife of Andrew Carnahan.
So... if you put these two documents from Logan Co., Ky together it would
seem that
James Billingsley married Anne
and their children were:
Samuel Billingsley
Henry Billingsley
John Billingsley
James Billingsley
Jane Billingsley - md John Carnahan
Polly Billingsley - md Joseph Shannon
Margaret Billingsley - md Samuel Shannon
Elizabeth Billingsley - md Andrew Carnahan
There is no James Billingsley in the Billingsley Book with these children and
these marriages that I can find.
But... when you add the documents from Guilford Co., North Carolina and the
move to Logan Co., Kentucky and the age periods, it would seem that this James
Billingsley would fit with the James Billingsley who is #37 in the Billingsley
Book. The Billingsley Book lists these children for James Billingsley #37:
William Henry - b. Dec 1769
Ann - b. 1771 - died infancy
John - b. 1772
Mary - b. 1773 - md William George
Samuel - b. 1775
Frances Rebecca - b. 1777 - md David Billings
James - b. 1779
Elizabeth - b. 1781 - md David Craig
Ann - b. 1784 - died 1790's
Francis Basil
James Billingsley #20 in the Billingsley Book is listed as the father of
James Billingsley #37.
So my problem is -- who is my James Billingsley and who are his parents.
It really is confusing isn't it.....
Thanks so much and give me a yell.
Take care - Emma

Elizabeth Billingsley, born about 1762, in MD, married Andrew Carnahan.

Hi Bob,
I have some census records and marriage records for some of these folks.
Would that help any?
