Hello family,
I hope someone will stumble along this and give me a hand. I'm looking for a Carmody
that was sent to an Australian Penal Colony in the 1840's. This Carmody would be the
brother of Thomas (1806-1894) and William (1809-1889) Carmody (father's of
Wisconsin's "Black Jack" and "Red Jack" Carmody) that were born in
County Limerick and left Ireland between 1844 and 1846 and settled in Door County
Wisconsin in the 1850's. Thomas and William left with 2 other unknown brothers, one
died in Ohio and one settled in Pennsylvania. A 5th brother was to have joined them in
their voyage but he was convicted of a crime (presumably theft) and was sent to the
Australian Penal Colony with his family (if he had one at the time). I don't have much
else to work with at this point but I do believe that the father of the 5 brothers was
named John Carmody and would have been born in Ireland sometime between 1750 and 1790.
I hope someone can help
Rob Carmody
