Jenny, Karelle and Tom,
I've been monitoring your posts over the past week or so and thought I'd throw
myself into the mix. Tom has already contacted me but I don't believe I've talked
with the others. My Carmody's date back to two brothers, Thomas (b 1806, County
Limerick) and William (b. 1809, County Limerick) who came to America with 2 unknown
brothers in the mid 1840's and eventually settled in Door County Wisconsin and began
the large Carmody family in Wisconsin. They may have had a 5th brother who was to join
them on their journey to America but was convicted of a crime and sent to the Australia
penal colony instead and may have started or brought his family there. I believe the
brothers father was named John and based on the births of Thomas and William, would have
been born anywhere from 1750 and 1790 in Ireland. All the names you've mentioned are
common names in my descendents (James, Patrick, Bridget, Margaret etc). I'd love to
find a connection to your families. Limerick and Claire (Thom!
as was married in 1836 in Bodyke Parish in Claire) are next to each other so it's
possible we have common cousins, uncles or perhaps more. My files are very detailed for
Thomas and William on down. Keep me in mind if anyone finds the link between us all.
Take care,
Rob Carmody
