Hi Rob,
I am researching my husband's Carmody line from Door County, WI. The Carmody family
settled in Egg Harbor, and nearby on the Door Peninsula as early pioneers. There are two
branches of the Carmody family which immigrated to Door County and originated from the
same family in Limerick, Ireland.
At the last Carmody family reunion in Egg Harbor, it was helpful to use the
"nicknames" of two Carmody "first cousins" who first came to Door
County, because both of their names were Thomas. The many Carmody descendants who came
from all over the country were designated as either a "Red Jack" or a
"Black Jack" by their name tags, which corresponded to which cousin they
descended from. It may sound a little confusing, but it actually helped to tell which
Thomas you descended from. LOL
I would be amiss if I did not give credit to the Carmody genealogist, Jackie Iyzak, who
dedicated so much of her time-before digitized Internet records- up to near the end of her
life from cancer,to organize this reunion and the massive undertaking to complete the
genealogy research.
There is a very large "Carmody Clan" which arrived enmass from Colorado and
Montana, as well as the Wisconsin-Michigan Carmodys who are scattered throughout the
midwest. Door County still has a large number of Carmody descendants who still call the
"County" home. With such a gathering of "Irish" relatives here at the
reunion, you can guess all had a really good time. LOL
I recently recieved an email from another Door County Carmody cousin, previously unknown
to me. Let me get more to my point. The research on this tree seems to finally be
"making progress". Your comment that the Carmodys worked on the Railroads
helped to finally makes sense to me why Thomas & Margaret's children were born in
so many states.
If you think you have a connection to the Door County Carmody families, the fastest way to
get a response from me is to reply to this message-I am on
Ancestry.com everyday and will
see your message as it posts or soon after.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Debra Polster
