I'm wondering if if my collateral relative Thomas Carmody moved to Davenport, IA from
Springfield, VT because your Carmody was a relative. I haven't been able to find any
reason why he would have moved there, other than the possibility he heard about Iowa from
a relative. Thomas was the son of Thomas Carmody (c. 1835-1906)and Catherine SPILLANE (c.
1835-1916). Thomas the father emigrated from Liscannor, County Clare, Ireland, probably in
1848 with his brother John (my g-g-grandfather)and parents Michael Carmody and Margaret
LEYDEN. In 1880 Thomas the son was living with his parents in Springfield. Around 1885 he
married May DIEHN (c. 1861-1934). Their son Edward was born in St. Joseph, MO in 1886.
Thomas was in the St.Joseph directory in 1887. The next time I found him was in 1894 in
Davenport where he and May lived for the rest of their lives. Son Edward died in 1967 in
Davenport. Other children: Harry 1895-97, Mabelle Florence (Carmody) BOJENS 1888-1967
(she moved to !
San Diego in 1924). Do any of these names sound familiar?
