(Hi everyone, it's been a long time since I posted my
McCormicks and Carmichaels, so I'm
sending this reply to some of my other lists, too.
Hope everyone had a happy Easter..... Nancy)
Hi Nancy and list, Can you tell us more about your McCormicks
and the Isle of Lismore, Scotland. Also a little on the Carmichaels
too, please. Thank You, Win McCormick Shores
Win,
My original immigrant McCORMICKs were Duncan & Katherine,
who immigrated from Appin, Argyll, Scotland to Richmond (later
Scotland) County, NC in 1791. They had ten children:
Katherine
Archibald
Dougald
Daniel
Christian
Mary
John Carmichael
Duncan
Margaret
Nancy (my g-g-grandmother)
Katherine was a CARMICHAEL before her marriage.....and Nancy
married Daniel CARMICHAEL (of Richmond Co.). According to
Roderick Carmichael's 1935 "The Scottish Highlander Carmichaels
of the Carolinas," all of the CARMICHAELs who immigrated first to
Richmond Co., NC (some later moved to other NC & SC counties) were
from the Isle of Lismore, Appin, Argyll. He also states that all
of these original heads of family CARMICHAELs were related
(brothers or cousins).
I have yet to narrow down my McCormicks to anything more specific
than Appin -- Isle of Lismore is included under Appin.
But I've put 2 and 2 together (which, unfortunately, doesn't
always add up to 4 in family research!). I have found that Rev. John
McINTYRE (cousin of Duncan McCORMICK, who immigrated with him)
was from the Isle of Lismore.
That, in combination with the fact that Katherine McCORMICK was a
CARMICHAEL, and she and Duncan were married before they
immigrated, has led me to believe that my McCORMICKs were from
the Isle of Lismore, too. Hope to be able to find out for SURE one day.
I have Roderick Carmichael's book, if your husband, or anyone on
the list, would like me to look some names up, I'd be happy to. The
names of those married to CARMICHAELs are also indexed, so they're
easy to find.
Nancy
