Hello, like others we signed on for this digest but haven't got anything
back. Allow me to begin with all my husband's Carmichael information
as we have it so far: First, we were told by my Carmichael in-laws that
a certain Albert Carmichael was born somewhere in Scotland, and he went
to Ireland to work as a Land Steward for the Earl of Leitrim, on his estate
at Anagh-Lloyd, Dromod, Mohill, Co. Leitrim, Ireland.
<P>This has been a major roadblock, as we have tried endlessly to trace
this person and this estate, without any success whatsoever. Albert
was supposedly my husband's g-grandfather. So doing what all good
genealogists are supposed to do, we started from my husband and this is
what we have so far:
<P>My Husband:
<BR>Ian Lloyd Carmichael, b. 11 Oct. 1936, Belfast, N.Ireland
<BR>m. me, Liz Pettit
<P>Ian's father:
<BR>Lloyd Stephenson Carmichael, b. 23 May 1908, d. 5 May 1976
<BR>m. Edith Margaret D'Arcy. Children: Ian, David, Jennifer
<P>Ian' grandfather:
<BR>Lloyd Carmichael, b. 5 Oct. 1859, 55 Thomas St., Hulme, Co. of
Lancaster? (Birth certificate)
<BR>m. Bessie Geddes Johnston. Children: Albert, Frances, Ruth, Lloyd
<BR><I>This is strange because his father told us that Lloyd was born 4
Oct. 1860, but I can only assume that was his christening date.</I>
<P>Lloyd's father (acc. to birth cert) was:
<BR>William Carmichael <I>(Not Albert!)</I>
<BR>Married to Elizabeth Stephenson 31 May 1855 in Manchester Cathedral
(<I>OK, that ties in with his father's 2nd name Stephenson)</I>
<BR>Children: Albert, Lloyd, Elizabeth, Margaret
<BR>We cannot go back any further, cannot find any record of either William's
birth or christening.
<P>I doubt anyone could help us with this, but perhaps someone could give
us some advice. We have no idea where William was born. If
in Scotland, where? There are many William Carmichaels! I know
we can look at the 1861 Census for Hulme, but it's expensive.
