Everyone,
The Rootsweb list migration is proceeding, albeit somewhat slowly
and a bit behind schedule. I administrate twenty lists and, so far,
only my A - C lists have changed over. I'm getting a better
understanding of the new system and there are a few things that
you'll need to know about.
First, after your list has migrated, the address you'll use to post
will no longer be, for example, SMITH-L(a)rootsweb.com Instead it will
be SMITH(a)rootsweb.com with no "L." I'll let you know when the move
has been accomplished because, although Rootsweb is supposed to be
sending out "Welcome" letters to subscribers as the lists are changed,
not everyone is receiving them.
For those of you who crosspost, you will no longer be able to use
the "BCC" function when sending messages to Rootsweb; however, you
may still send posts to more than one list by using either "To" or
"CC" with no difficulty.
Some of you subscribe to BOTH the individual and digest mode of the
same list, with Mailman, this will no longer be possible; you'll need
to choose one or the other. The system will automatically choose one
for you, if you'd prefer the other, just let me know and I'll fix that
for you.
AOL is presenting some problems. If you use AOL, you'll need
to check your spam folders to make sure no messages are being
diverted. Also, for AOL users, the format of your digest messages may
change, if you prefer the former format, just let me know and I can
adjust it. Rootsweb is working diligently with AOL to try to get
issues worked out as they develop.
Some of you may not be aware of this, but AOL Rootsweb subscribers
have their own list, where various problems are discussed and you may
find answers to questions, not only about this, but other AOL
difficulties pertaining to mailing lists:

I am trying to keep my own posts on this subject down to a minimum
and, IF all goes smoothly, the only other post you will receive from
me will be one that advises that the move of a particular list has
been accomplished, so you'll know when to begin using the new address.
For the BALDRIDGE, CARMICHAEL, CATES and CAPE FEAR SCOTS list
members among you, be advised that those lists have been moved. From
now on, I will only send posts to specific lists as they migrate.
Let me know if you experience any problems.
