As some of you may be aware, Rootsweb's mailing lists are about to
be moved to a new list management system (Mailman). I've been keeping
track of the possible problems this change may create through the
List-Owner and List-Update mailing lists for the past several days.
So far, I don't see any evidence that the switch will be problematic
for subscribers. If all goes as planned, you won't notice any changes
in the lists to which you are currently subscribed.
I've, also, been studying the Mailman tutorial for administrators
in advance of the move, so that I can be better prepared to do the
change-over tasks required of admins once the change is in effect.
(On that score, I make no promises...the only thing I'm certain of, so
far, is that I'm going to need a new supply of aspirin...which I've
already secured. :-) I can, however, promise, to do my best to make
the change as problem-free as possible for you.
Some of you may have seen the announcement about the move on the
Helpdesk page, which includes mention of the "List-Update" list, the
list set up specifically to deal with questions concerning the list
migration. It's my view, after observing discussions on the list for
awhile, that it may create more confusion than answers for many
people. Also, as you might imagine, it's an extremely active list at
the moment---with a flood of worried queries from my fellow list
admins, who, like me, are a bit concerned about their ability to
muddle through the tutorial, and the questions that arise, as they
study it. However, if you're interested in subscribing, you might
take a quick look at the archives to help you decide:

The first lists are set to be moved on Thursday, August 17th.
You'll find the schedule for switching the lists at:
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html
If problems do arise during the change-over, please know that the
Rootsweb staff and the list admins will be working to resolve them as
quickly as possible. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate
to contact me. If I don't know the answer, I'll find someone who
does!
