I received this information from a Delaware genealogist, Don Mosemann. He had
visited my genealogy site and thought there might be a connection between the
Carmichaels he'd discovered in his research and my Carmichael line. There isn't,
but I asked his permission to send his message to the list, in the hope that it
might be helpful to someone.

For several years I have been compiling a compendium of mini genealogies of
individuals who lived in a section of New Castle County, Delaware called
Brandywine Hundred [which was the location of a vibrant shipbuilding industry].
Two of the individuals named in the local tax list, Dougald Carmichael and John,
who was believed to be Dougald's brother, may have a connection to your [ancestor
Commodore Dougald Carmichael of Marion County, SC]. The spelling of the names
in the tax lists are often atrocious and inconsistent. Here are their entries
from the various lists.
