These abstracts of death reports are an excellent resource. Though
the newspapers are based in Tennessee, there are death notices
from all over the country: Abstracts from Reported Deaths from
The Nashville Christian Advocate (from mid-1800's to early 1900's);
Genealogical Tidbits from The Memphis Daily Appeal during the
Centennial Year of 1876. There are, also, miscellaneous records from
Madison, Carrol, Chester, Henderson and other TN counties.

For those of you who have done battle with these folks, this will be
good news. This company, under several different names, has scammed
thousands of online genealogy researchers.

>From Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter:
I have written a number of times about a genealogy-related scam that
operates under a variety of names, including GenSeekers.com,
GenealogyGiants.com and more. Earlier today, the Cedar Rapids police
department arrested Elias Abodeely for his activities with GenSeekers.com
and the other websites he operates. KWWL television in Iowa is now
reporting that Cedar Rapids Police have made an arrest after a two year
internet crime investigation. The crimes involved genealogy websites. Today
police arrested Elias Abodeely, II of Cedar Rapids.. He faces four charges:
1st degree theft, identity theft, money laundering and ongoing criminal
conduct. Police say they expect to file charges against more suspects soon.

Darrell,
I think this George Carmichael is the same George who was s/o of Barzilla Alexander Carmichael (Jr) and wife Millicent A. Marshall. Barzilla Jr was s/o Barzilla Carmichael (Sr) & Mary Westmoreland of Forsyth Co. NC. Barzilla Jr was in the 1860 census of Forsyth Co. but moved afterwards to KY where he died. You can find more info in my data posted on RootsWeb WorldConnect (file name proudscot). Go there and search on Barzilla Alexander Carmichael/Millicent Marshall.

There is a large branch of Carmichael's that settled in New Brunswick, Canada just across the border from Maine. You can access two lengthy family trees on RootsWeb.com under Dugald Carmichael - born Scotland about 1755. John is a name that is found in the family. I am a descendent of David who ultimately settled in Minnesota - a distant cousin there and another person elsewhere in the country have done a tremendous amount of work.
