Jerry,
As you can read in the reply I just posted to Marcia, unfortunately, I don't know of a source where you might be able to purchase the Roderick Carmichael book. I, also, obtained the copy (a copier copy) of the McCormick book from a fellow McCormick descendant, it had been her mother's book. I believe it was published by the author about 50 years ago, I've never seen it available for purchase, though I've found other McCormick descendants who have copies.
As I told Marcia, I'd be happy to copy the chapter that applies to your direct ancestor (in both books) and snail mail it to you.
I'd also be very happy to make a copy of the photo of Daniel Norman and Margaret McCormick Carmichael and send it to you. You can e-mail me directly at bristern(a)datastar.net to let me know if you'd like the chapter copies and to send your snail mail address.
Nancy

Marcia,
The book was published in 1935 and reprinted in 1978. I obtained my copy from a fellow Carmichael descendant a couple of years ago. I heard a faint rumor he might have a copy and Sherlock Holmes would've been proud of the way I tracked him down. Sure enough, he had a copy to spare and sold it to me. Unfortunately, he had no others. And I haven't seen one from either printing for sale at any genealogy bookstore site. Though I'm told it's been found in some libraries.
Is there any information I can look up for you.....or if you would like me to, I'd be glad to copy the chapter that applies to your direct ancestor and snail mail it to you. If you send your address, e-mail me directly at bristern(a)datastar.net
I'll also be glad to send the publisher's address, etc., if you'd like to try to find a copy or order it through your library.
Just let me know and I'll send you the info you need, whichever way you'd like to do it....I know how thrilled I was when I found my copy!
Nancy

Nancy,
I am very interested in your book on "The Scottish Highlander Carmichaels of the Carolina's". I am also a descendant of the Duncan Carmichael that Jerry R. Carmichael (from the previous posting) had mentioned in his posting. Do you know where I can get a look at a copy of this book? Duncan's father John who married in Lanark, Scotland or Isle of Lismore, may be the one I am looking for. If you can help me, please let me know.
Thanks, Marcia Carmichael Bradbury
Hello All:
I am new to this mailing list, and come begging assistance on a very perplexing family family line, if humanly possible for you to do so.
My great grandfather was ABRAHAM THOMPSON who was born about 1817 in South Carolina, according to some census reports. He married Martha Elizabeth "Patsy" ADAMS in Coweta County, GA in 1842 and promptly moved next door into neighboring Heard County, GA for the remainder of his life. He eventually died as a soldier during the Civil War and was buried in Richmond, VA but my great grandmother lived the rest of her life in Heard County.
My most perplexing problem has been the burned courthouses which leaves me with no verifiable proof of who his parents or siblings were. Though I have searched both Coweta County & Heard County diligently, I can find no old Bible Record, Last Will & Testament, or any other definite proof that ties my Abraham Thompson to any other Thompsons in that area.
Recently, I came across a webpage that references a book:
The Carmichael Clan, Westbrook, and Allied Families compiled by Mrs. Opal Carmichael, Phoenix, 1963.
This book, based in large part it seems from DAR records, has my greatgrandfather listed in it as one of the 11 children descended from Patrick Carmichael & wife Elizabeth, I think. I only have part of the children listed as the webpage did not name the first three: 4. Charlie 5. Robert 6. Daniel 7. Hannah 8. William 9. Joseph 10. Abraham 11. Charles Abram
Since DAR records are pretty thorough in their "documented proof" of lineages, I want so very much to believe that after all these years, my blank walls on my greatgrandfather might finally be lifted but have no access to this book nor any additional data that it might contain. So, I am asking if you please have access to this book & the information contained therein, and it does contain verifiable proof of my great grandfather, would you please take the time to let me know ? I would be forever grateful for any scraps of information.
Best regards,
Jane Ashley Benson

Jerry,
I'm a 2-g-granddaughter of Daniel CARMICHAEL and Nancy McCORMICK CARMICHAEL. Your 2-g-, Daniel Norman CARMICHAEL, was a grandson of John CARMICHAEL and Katherine McCORMICK (Katherine was my Nancy's sister). Daniel Norman's wife, Margaret, was the daughter of Edward and Catherine McMillan McCORMICK.....and the granddaughter of Duncan C. McCORMICK (Duncan C. was Katherine and Nancy's brother). But the association of the Carmichaels and McCormicks begins further back than that. Our original McCormick immigrant ancestor was Duncan McCORMICK (father of Nancy, Katherine and Duncan C.). Duncan's wife, Katherine, was a CARMICHAEL before her marriage. She and Duncan were married in a Presbyterian church in Glasgow, Scotland but, according to Carmichael family history and research I've done, as well, it is believed that they were both born on the Isle of Lismore, Appin, Argylleshire, Scotland. By the time they were married, many Highlanders had been forced to seek work in!
Glasgow and other cities.
Duncan and Katherine and their firstborn, Katherine (your 4-g-grandmother), came to America in 1791, settling in Richmond County, North Carolina. Many of the CARMICHAEL heads of families (all probably related) also came to Richmond Co. from Scotland, however, most migrated to South Carolina or other areas. One exception was your 4-g-grandfather, John CARMICHAEL's family, whose descendants continue to live in Laurinburg today.
Do you have Roderick Carmichael's "The Scottish Highlander Carmichaels of the Carolinas?" Your line is well documented in his book, as well as in "Our Clan of McCormicks." I'm in correspondence with another descendant of John CARMICHAEL and Katherine McCORMICK and she recently sent me a photograph of Daniel Norman and Margaret.
If you'd like info from the Carmichael book or a copy of this photograph, just let me know. I have quite a bit of information on these families and on Richmond/Scotland Co. Be happy to share whatever I have. You can e-mail me at bristern(a)datastar.net

Looking for info on my family. I have been to the Cemeteries in N.C. Smyria and Stuartville. My father was Coburn Carmichael (1926-1982). William Lawrence was my grandfather (1890-1955). I have seen a book The Clan of McCormicks and I got the rest of this info out of it. Who are the McCormicks and what relationship do they have with Carmichael? My GG-grandfather is Daniel Norman Carmichael(1860-1916). My GGG-grandfather is Duncan Carmichael (1818-1874). What info do you have about him being in the Civil War? GGGG-grand.John Carmichael(1790-1865)etc...
His parents were John Wesley Carmichael and Susannah Victoria Carmichael
Carmichael.
His wife was Mary Elizabeth Burch ( b 1854 ). She went by Elizabeth most
of the time .
They had 7 children. I have found 6 of these.
My grandfather was Hubbard one of their 4 sons.
I have also found some marriage info on other 3 sons and 2 daughters.
Does anybody know more on John Ransom Carmichael / Mary Elizabeth Burch
or son Hubbard.
Thanks Barbara Clark

Kandi,
I too have a Leonzo Lafayette in Arkansas. It is such an unusual name I thought yours and mine might be connected somehow. My Leonzo was born in 1844 and had seven sisters, any of which could have named a child the same as her brother. Let me know if this interests you.
