When dealing with earlier works on the Carman Family it is
extremely important to provide proper identification of the
work since, several drafts and or versions could be in
existence.
The post above identifies, a manuscript by Henry Alanson
Tredwell, Junior. This work was compiled in typescript on
the 19th of August 1946. The work consisted of exactly 36
numbered pages and a title page. This work did not deal with
many lines but rather the Descendants of John-2 Carman, who died
in 1684.
A note for contemporary Carman Hobbyists and Researchers,
do not use this manuscript unless you are very familiar with the
early Carman Family on Long Island. The work is filled with
erroneous information. Errors in dates as well as placement are
found throughout the manuscipt. Mr. Tredwell had done research
on several other families on Long Island as mentioned above.
Those works were published. Mr. Tredwell was uncertain in
regards to his conclusions on the Carman Family. In many
places, he would list many possibilities for a piece of
information rather than completing the genealogy.
At best, Mr. Tredwell's work would provide confusion
to the novice Carman researcher. Later 20th Century research
have made Mr. Tredwell's work on the Carman Family obsolete
in the current effort to find missing lines to the early
Carman generations on Long Island.
