This was a hot issue on the Carman-l list this month.
However, the subject was banned as a topic for
discussion. The issue was taking posts received via
ROOTSWEB new Personalized Mail List Service and posting
it to another list without permission of the originator.
Rootsweb was consulted and it was agreed that it was not
a good practice. Patricia Tidmarsh, list owner, CARMAN-
L, posted on 11 January that she would not be reposting
PML posts as a result of time and the availability of
search engines on ROOTSWEB. She did not address the
ethics of the practice.

However, on the 12th of Jan, she posted a PML repost
with no permission of the originator, thus reversing her
position of 11 January.

On the 13th of January another PML message was referred
to on the Carman-l list but without and citation as to
the post originator nor date of the post.
I believe it is imperative that we respect the
intellectual property of others. Since all information
is apparently archived at this time, it would be a great
idea to use the available search engines as suggested by
ROOTSWEB and not to repeat a great deal of data.
