Andes Recorder - Jan __, 1911 - Charles CARMAN,
one of the oldest residents of Andes village
passed away at his home on Main street, Tuesday
afternoon, January 3. For sometime a growth on
the head had caused him much suffering and he had
been unable to lay down with it all winter.
Complications hastened the end. Mr. Carman was
born in Bovina, 78 years ago the 23d day of last
September and boyhood was spent there. After teaching
school for a few years he went to Downsville to reside
and June 6, 1860, married Miss Helen JOHNSON of that
place. During the war he acted as recruiting officer.
About 44 years ago he moved to Andes and for two or
three years was in the merchantile business with his
brother, their place of business being where T. M.
Spiers' house now stands. He then took up photography
retiring two or three years ago. He served as Justice
of the Peace for about 35 years. His wife and three
children survive him, viz; Ward Carman, a photographer
in Margaretville, Mrs. H. J. KINCH, of Walton, and
Mrs. W. D. HILTON, in Chicago. The funeral will be
held from his late residence at 2 p.m. to-day (Friday)
with Rev. E. A. Bookout, officiating
Charles should be the grandson of James listed above.
Andes Recorder - Jan 11, 1901 - Lauren G. HILTON,
grandson of Charles CARMAN of this village, died
at the home of his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs.
W. S. Hilton, at Margaretville on Jan. 5, with
consumption. He was born at Wamego, Kansas,
Oct. 31, 1882. In February, 1900 he contracted a
severe cold from which he never recovered. In April
he went to Texas for his health where he remained until
August, when he returned to his home in Chicago, and
was in the hospital there until October 19, when
accompanied by his mother, he went to Southern Pines,
N.C. The funeral was held on Tuesday at Margaretville
and the remains brought here and interred in the
lower cemetery.
See Charles above
Andes Recorder - 1? Aug 1914 - Mrs. Charles CARMAN
died at the home of her daughter, Mr. H. J. KINCH,
in Walton, at 3 o'clock Tuesday morning, August 25,
as the result of a shock sustained at 8 o'clock the
previous evening. Mrs. Carman had been in her ususal
health and that evening her two dauters went out to
make a call leaving her alone. The parties on whom
they wished to call were not in and they returned
home entering the house just as their mother suffered
the stroke of paralysis. She never regained
consciousness. She was a daughter of late Edward JOHNSON,
of Downsville, and was born in the town of Colchester
72 years ago and resided there until after her marriage.
Coming to Andes in the 60's she lived here until after
the death of her husband three years ago, and had since
lived with her dauter. A son, Ward Carman, of
Margaretville, and two dauters, Mrs. W. D. HILTON and
Mrs. H. J. Kinch, survive her. The body was brought to
Andes and the funeral held Thursday with interment in
the Andes cemetery.
Andes Recorder - Dec 16, 1932 - Native of Andes
Dies - Mrs. William D. HILTON died at her home in
Walton on December 14, after a long illness. Her
maiden name was Lou Carman, being the eldest
daughter of the late Charles CARMAN and Helen JOHNSON,
and she was born in Andes 72 years ago. For a
number of hears after her marriage they lived
in Chicago, but her life had been mainly spent in Andes
and Walton. Surviving her is a sister, Mrs. Harvey
KINCH of Walton, and a brother, Ward Carman of
Margaretville. The burial will be made at Andes
Friday afternoon.
Interesting group of Carman's buried in Lake County,
Illinois at the Lake Mound Cemetery in Zion. This
County is north of Chicago and Zion is just about on the
shore of Lake Michigan near the Wisconsin Border.

(this is a very clear stone and is NOT an error)
Noted on several web sites today that the myth that
John-1 Carman's parents have been proven continues to
plague the Internet databases. There is no primary evidence
to confirm nor even speculate who John-1 Carman's parents were
or his birth year!
The myth is that his parents were John and Abigail Carman
and that he was born in Hemel Hempstead in England in 1606!
For the second time today a web site also listed John-1's
wife as a "Fordham" this is not the case as previously posted.
Another web page listed John-1 Carman as having the following
children:
Caleb
John
John (a second one) NOT!
Abigail
Caleb (a second one) NOT!!
Thomas NOT!!
Joshua
On the same page John-2 Carman was listed as having died on the 14th
of September 1684. Actually this is the date that his will was
drafted and witnessed. Since the will was not proven till October 16,
1684.....He died sometime between the dates!
Be careful on where you data comes from. Always look for
primary source material!
The below link indicates that an A. Carman owned
property in the subject township. The transcript was
an 1899 Plat Book for Denver and Wise Townships, Isabella

With 36 sections to a township. He was located in

Another statement of Carman Genealogy Myth!
On the below linked web page devoted to Coe
Genealogy, a reference is made to the parents
of Abigail-2 Carman who married Benjamin Coe.
The page list's John Carman and Florence Fordham
as her parents. There is no evidence known to
support Florence Carman's maiden name to be Fordham.
To the contrary, the evidence discounts Fordham as being
one of the possibilities!
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmarsha/coe1.txt
A reference is made in the book, "Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, Their
Past and
Present, containing A comprehensive History of Ohio;....." compiled by A. A.
Graham,
Chicago, W. H. Beers & Co. 1883, to a Jacob Carman Architect.
On Pages 77-78 reference is made to the construction of a new county Court
House with Jacob Carman of Lancaster as the architect with a plan.
Lancaster
is also in Fairfield County. Construction would have begun about 1867
since
it was completed in 1871 after four years of construction.

The Anna Carman identifed at this link was born May 28, 1841
in Schuyler Co., NY. Anna was the daughter of Thomas Carman
and Margret Williams. Thomas was the great-grandson of
Adam Carman and Philadelphia Titus.
This was a nice site based on the fact that the information
was sourced! Unfortunately, the data for Anna Carman and her
husband had a computer database for a source. This being
teritiary information, you don't know where the information
was derieved.

the line of Alexander Carman of Ulster County, NY
who had a son named Joseph, grandson named Robert,

of the query.

of Long Island Carman's. The definitive
Ancestor is Adam Carman who married Amelia

and few returned for the 1881 reunion in
Hempstead, Long Island.
