I hope listers don't mind if I outline one of my lines of enquiry.
My maternal great grandmother on my father's side of the family was Ann TUCKER (nee
THOMAS) b.1835 Llanfihangel Rhos-y-Corn died, in the Dec. Qtr., 1918 Llanelli aged 83.
In 1901 she was working her late husband's smallholding (21 acres) at HollyThorn,
Llandefeilog, with the help of Benjamin John Thomas aged 15, a cow boy (unsure of their
exact family connection). Her husband Maurice (Morris) TUCKER had been born in Llanstephan
and like his father, (and his own son) had been a Blacksmith as well as running the
Hollythorn smallholding.
Ann's birth is given as Llanfihangel Rhos-y-Corn in 1901 but previous census returns
had it as Llanybydder as her birth place, although I believe Llanfihangel Rhos-y-Corn is
within the Llanybydder Parish.
Hollythorn is "still there" in Llandefaelog, but is now a bungalow, presumably
the small holding has long since gone, Constant farm is or was close by, a farm my
grandmother Margaret BOWEN (nee TUCKER) sometimes referred to.
On her wedding certificate Ann's father is named as Benjamin THOMAS, Farmer.
I have looked through the 1841 Census return for Llanfihangel Rhos-y-Corn and found a few
Ann THOMAS's of the "right age" but none with a father named Benjamin.
I'm left wondering if Ann was born in Llanfihangel Rhos-y-Corn around 1835 but before
the 1841 Census return, perhaps had moved, to possibly another place in Llanybydder, just
a guess.
When she married in 1872 she had been working as a servant at Glanmorlais about one and a
half miles from Hollythorn where her future husband lived, It was his second marriage, his
first wife, Margaret TUCKER (nee WALTERS) from Llandefeilog, died fairly young.
Ann went on to have 2 children one of whom was my grandmother Margaret BOWEN (nee TUCKER)
and a son Thomas TUCKER, a farrier who I understand worked near what was the Uplands pub,
Llandefeilog, alongside the main road from Llanelli to Llandefeilog.
Basically I'm attempting to trace where Ann and her family where in the 1841 Census, I
also assume that since she was around 37 years of age when she married in 1872, that her
father Benjamin, would have been alive since he was mentioned on her wedding certificate
and no mention was made that he was deceased.
Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thank you.

Keith Bowen
