Subject: Benjamin Mostyn Jones 1893-1964
I recently came across a 1964 press cutting from the Burry Port Star,
which I have had since that time, and would like to share it will you, and
what lead me to discover from the few details in the article, information
about Mostyn Jones.
HEADMASTER AT PEMBREY SCHOOL
The death occurred this week of a former headmaster at Pembrey Primary
School, Mr.Mostyn Jones, of 4, Gwscwm road, Burry Port. Until his
retirement seven years ago Mr.Jones had been headmaster at Pembrey for 30
years.
He was a former secretary of Carmarthenshire Association of the National
Union of Teachers and was a co-opted member of Carmarthenshire Education
committee.
Mr. Jones was the pioneer of a medical fund for members of the teaching
profession in West Wales and was for many years Vicar's warden at Pembrey.
He is survived by his wife.
>From the above information we can deduce that Mostyn Jones retired in
>1957, at age 65, which puts his date of birth as 1893.
Where was he born? I've asked that question many times and some believed
he came from North Wales. As he died in the Llanelli registration district
a check for Mostyn's death for 1964 got no result. Then a check of the
1911 census found the following.
1911 census
25,Water St,Kidwelly
James Jones Head 46 boxer tinplate works Llangennech
Both
Mary Ann Jones Wife 42 24 3 3 0
Llangennech Both
John Volander Jones Son 24 married under 1 year Llangennech
Both
Gwennie Jones Dau 22 dress maker Langennech

Mostyn Jones Son 18 student

In the 1911 census included further information on the household, the
numbers against Mary Ann show they were married for 24 years having in
total 3 children with 3 still living, no deaths.
Going back to the same family in 1901
1901 census
Rhandri Terrace,Llangennech,Dist 3
James Jones Head 36 colliery banksman

Mary A Jones Wife 32
Llanelly
John V Jones Son 14 ? below ground

Mary G Jones Dau 12

Benjamin Jones son 8

Comparing the information in the two census returns it appears that Mostyn
and Benjamin are one and the same!
