Hi Judy
I enjoyed your story of Howard Elkington. My Great grandfather (David
Thomas) worked at a copper smelter in Pembrey, so perhaps it was the
Elkington smelter.
I have recently been following up some research on Welsh convicts in Western
Australia. On 22 December, 1866, the convict ship Corona arrived here, and
one of the convicts was a John Elkington. He was aged 43 when sentenced in
Monmouth on 26th March, 1864. He was transported for 7 years for possession
of a mould for coining. I don't know if he was one of yours, but he
certainly seemed an enterprising chap!
Regards
Gail
