Hello Mal
Have just enjoyed exploring a bit of 1736 Carmarthenshire by way of your map, which is
really clear and colourful. How on earth it ever got to Australia is a wonder!
Two things struck me - the number of crossings marked 'Wooden Bridge' [somehow
I'd always assumed that bridges had been stone since time immemorial, which is
obviously silly], and - at the Carmarthen end - how significant the Priory was and how
long Priory Street [home of some of my ancestors] appears to have been.
You have done an excellent thing in 'rescuing' this map and making it available to
all. Diolch, diolch yn fawr.
Phil

Hello list subscribers,
If any of you would like to see the type of road routes that your
Carmarthenshire ancestors travelled along back in the 16th century, you
might be interested in a genuine 1736 map that I recently gained after
successfully bidding for on "eBay", from a supplier in Australia.
Its too good a piece of history to be for Ellyn's and my eyes only so I've
had a scan of it installed in the "Wales" section of
http://www.yourmapsonline.org.uk
The map is of the road route between Llandovery and Carmarthen, passing
through or close to some of the parishes where your ancestors might have
lived.
regards,
Mal Davies....... from a cold and overcast morning in Carmarthenshire.
