Thanks very much Richard. I appreciate your help. William Phillips tried to
buy Cilhernin but he failed. He seemed to have ambition to buy as many farms
as he could and yet he was known for his frugality. I wonder what motivated
him.

Cilhernin-Llanboidy:
In 1839 Cilhernin [224 acres] belonged to Captain Prothero of Dolwilym,
the
tenant being John Phillips,
In 1862 still formed part of the Dolwilym Estate.
