Hi Anne
I will look at the original entry in Laugharne for you when I am there this
week......or you could ask in Carmarthen registry office
registrars(a)carmarthenshire.gov.uk
if they have his birth registered.....this would give name of father and
occupation.....you will know then if you have the correct one, if it gives
'writer' as occupation....
In my family.....Rachel Harvey had a child out of wedlock, birth certificate
listed him as David Harvey.....BUT, he always used the name David Anthony,
he never lived with his mother, in 1851 census he was classed as lodger, by
1861 he was living with his grandmother.....and he was buried with her too
at age 19, also buried under David Anthony (nephew of above not grandson as
it should have read)......so although he should have been Harvey, he used
the name Anthony.....so he must have been told that his birth father was
Anthony.....she lived her life as a servant never marrying...so I suppose
anyone could call themselves what they preferred...
Just thought I'd add that to show that although born with one name, he used
another.....

Hi pauline,
At first look, I thought this was probably a different family. I went
back to my 1881 census info. David is definitely using the surname Rees;
but
interestingly, one of his daughters is called Margaret.
I'm fairly certain I've got the right marriage for David Rees. I found
matching entries in
the GRO. I've also found the wife's (Anne Powell) family in the 1851
census
in
Llansadwrnen. David and Anne's first child Frederick was born in Laugharne
in 1867. They then head off to Glamorgan which is where I found them in
1881.
My best hope may be that David was living with his parents in 1866; and
try
to trace them in the 1871 censusu in Priory Street, Carmarthen.
I think I've found Anne's parents marriage in the Carmarthenshire index:
Thomas Powell and Hannah John in Llansadwrnen on 15 May 1834; will the
parish register entry give me any further details (eg their father's
names)?
Many thanks for your help again, Pauline.
All the best,
Anne (2015).
