Hello Brenda, here's my wild thought for today: if your folks were married by 1851 [it
looks like you've found them in the 1851 census], perhaps they were married, just four
years earlier in the same location. Also, if the first-born was born in Middlesex, that
often means what is now western suburbs of London - lots of parishes there I'm afraid!

Hello Pauline,
Thanks so much for your prompt reply. Having only just found Mary's maiden
name today, I've only had time to check for her marriage to James Clark on
the IGI and Freebmd, with no luck. The years around the time they were
married are not fully transcribed yet.
I might have to wait until transcriptions are complete, as searches are
expensive, and I've no idea where they married. There really were a lot of
James Clark's around! Is St. Peter's the only church that was in Carmarthen
up to the early 1800's? If that's the case, I can pay for a search of
christening records for a couple of years around the estimated year of her
birth, although it's unlikely to show the maiden name of her mother. I
appreciate your help.
Kind regards,
Brenda

Hello Brenda
There are families named Stephens in the 1851 census for Carmarthen
Town......do you know if Mary went to Kent on her own, or did they go as a
family.
Do you know her fathers name?......I have only indexed St Peters upto 1800
at present, although I have completed the burials to the last register
which
was more or less closed from the 1850's onwards ...
Have you tried the FreeBMD's to locate a marriage for James Clark and Mary
Stephens.....if not, you could check the St Catherine's House registers
(GRO) index.
regards
Pauline
